Servos Explained

A lot of new guys ask me the difference between servos and regular motors. It's a fine line that is actually very easy to understand.

Servos are special motors that are used for applications in robotics where precision is key. They can be set to a position by a speed controller or increased incrementally.  It's like a motor where you have precise control of how much it turns. Usually, servos have more torque and turn less quickly than regular motors.

That's the basics, but if you want to know in depth how they work, check out Wikipedia.

A servomechanism, or servo, is an automatic device that uses error-sensing negative feedback to correct the performance of a mechanism.
